The City of Buffalo, Wyoming - "In the shadow of the Bighorn Mountains" |
| Buffalo, Wyoming's Main Street was built on what was once a trail that curved down a slight hill, forded Clear Creek, and then angled up the grade on the other side. Buffalo's first freight wagons, with their teams of oxen, horses, and buggies made this trail where the first buildings of Buffalo were erected. |
|
Today there are many shops on
Main Street, including the old fashioned "soda fountain" where you can still get
a homemade soda. You can also see the Occidental Hotel, made famous by Owen Wister in the
novel "The Virginian." The Occidental, the Johnson County Court House, and the Carnegie Wing of the Jim Gatchell Museum of the West are all listed in the National Register of Historic Buildings .. as are many other buildings along Buffalo's Historic Main Street District. So when we say Buffalo is a place where Western history is alive and well ... we really mean it! Many events are held in Buffalo's downtown area including parades, cookouts, western re-enactments and sidewalk sales for the shoppers. |
| Buffalo, Wyoming has
many things to see and do. The Buffalo Golf course features 18 holes in view of the
