Fall |
| Fall in the Big Horns - Although Crazy Woman Canyon is accessible from late spring through fall, it is the most spectacular in the fall. Foliage of multi shades of yellows and oranges awaits the traveler around every curve. Along the way immense boulders line Crazy Woman Creek. A campground with tables, grills, water and toilet facilities is available for those who want to linger a while. Caution, passage is difficult in large motor homes and vehicles pulling long trailers. |
| Hunting Season (Begins in
October) Buffalo has proven to be a popular location for hunters from throughout the
country for the good game and great western hospitality. Big game includes elk, antelope,
mule deer, whitetail deer, and moose. Upland bird species include grouse, pheasant, turkey
and partridge. Fishing - Theres no better time of year to pack the fishing pole with you. Fall means cooler weather and great fishing. There are plenty of fishing opportunities on both public and private land around Buffalo and Johnson County. |

Clear Creek Trail System - People of all ages enjoy taking a quiet, relaxing stroll along the Clear Creek Trail, as it meanders beside Clear Creek. The path travels through Buffalo and into the base of the Big Horn Mountains. The route through the community is paved and is handicap accessible. At the west of the city park the path joins the green belt and becomes a gravel surface. Benches are provided for the weary traveler to rest or just enjoy the panorama. Five exercise stations are provided along the way. Trail maps are available at the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce. |

| Welcome to Winter in the Big Horn Mountains - Winter sports enthusiasts will not be disappointed when they choose the Buffalo area as their destination site for winter recreation. Imagine snowmobiling up miles of picturesque mountain trails with endless acres of powder. Willow Park and Pole Creek offer great opportunities for the cross-country skier. Big Horn Mountain Ski Resort is top notch for down hill skiing and snowboarding. Snowmobile and ski rentals are available. |

Downhill Skiing, Snowboarding, and Cross-Country Skiing - The Big Horns offer a variety of oppotunities for skiers and snowboarders. Big Horn Mountain Resorts, approximately 35 miles west of Buffalo, offers downhill skiing and snowboarding. Snow Shoeing - Winter offers different scenery and snow shoeing is a great way to experience the Big Horns. Popular with the locals is the moonlight trip. With no clouds and a full moon the stars seem like floodlights. Information can be obtained at the area sporting goods stores and at the Forest Service office for those who are unfamiliar with the range. |
| Ice Fishing - Ice
fishing is a favorite of locals and visitors alike. The most popular spot is Lake DeSmet,
just 7 miles north of Buffalo. Healy Reservoir, the Buffalo Wildlife Habitat and Muddy
Guard Reservoirs also offer good fishing. Fishermen will find rainbow, browns and
cutthroat trout. Be sure to check the ice conditions, especially in early winter and
spring. Ice Skating - Buffalos new ice skating rink and warming house are located in the city park -- a short walk from downtown Buffalo. |
